Arriving just a week after the U.S. Capitol was stormed by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump and speaking directly into the seriousness of the moment, the kind-hearted track is all about reconciliation. With deep thinking lyrics about rejecting a black-and-white view of the world, and instead, embracing something a little more grey, it calls on people everywhere to put their differences aside and choose a new beginning.
“We’re all the same to God no matter what we get His Love,” goes the song’s moving bridge. “I’m tired of looking left or right, so I’m just looking up.”
Hubbard reportedly wrote the soul-searching tune while waiting out a positive COVID-19 quarantine on his bus (which was parked in his driveway), and a new video captures he and McGraw bringing the song to life in the recording studio.
Both stars teased the track in social media posts at the beginning of January, and it was co-produced by FGL studio guide Corey Crowder and McGraw’s preferred producer, Byron Gallimore. “Undivided” marks the second collaboration for the superstar pair, following McGraw’s inclusion on the 2016 FGL hit, “May We All.”
